The Walking Family

I didn't know it then but I know it now. This too was one of my mother's secret weapons. Being the youngest of the 7 children I toddled along everywhere we went. There was alot of walking. We walked across the big bridge that spanned the mighty Ohio river to the big department store so that we could have a special lunch at their fancy restaurant. We would spend hours and hours hiking through state and national parks gathering berries for to make jelly at my grandmothers house the following Sunday afternoon. Vacation time was not spent playing video games or flopped in front of a T.V. All 7 of us were climbing sand dunes, walking beaches, touring lighthouses and monuments. Not by taxi either all on foot. Later in life we tripped the lights fantastic of Broadway running from one end of Manhattan to the other in heels laughing and chatting all the way! That Mom;-)

This is how my mom got to know and love us children and we her . She never sat us down and had "the talk". It came out naturally through all of that walking and our relationship grew as it still is today. 2 more days until Mom turns 80 years old.
She can still out walk the best of us.

You must take personal responsibility.
You cannot change the circumstances,
the seasons, or the wind, but
you can change yourself"
